By Charlotte Read and Matthew Bines
Welcome back to another year of The Bard! I’m Charlotte Read, writing alongside Matthew Bines. We are the third generation of The Bard’s Editors-in-Chief. Last year we worked as editors and have recently taken on The Bard as our own.
Due to the pandemic, last was certainly an interesting one to say the least. But having a community such as this one made our first year at university much more impactful in our quarantined lives. We got to write, edit, and manage social media for The Bard and be a part of its growth.
As with any growing project there are elements that worked fantastically and some struggled. Despite the fact that we were in a pandemic, our submission output was still frequent and successful. This is something we take great pride in. There are some elements of The Bard that will be changing over the course of the next year. For example, we have decided that from now on we will be accepting submissions from anywhere, university student or not. We hope that this’ll provide our community with a wider range of content and voices.
To last year’s Editor-in-Chief, Ruth Almodal, we would like to say a big thank you for the opportunity and for everything you have done for The Bard. We wish you the best of luck in your third year and are keeping our fingers crossed that we might see some more of your writing coming our way.
And to everyone else, we hope to see your creativity. Whether it be through storytelling, poetry, photography or anything at all. We are keen to publish you!
I have a lot of hobbies but most of them mean I’m either curled up in bed or sat at my desk. At least I’m easy to contact.
