‘Bloom’
‘Bubble E’
‘Fall and Rise’
‘Saviour: Helper’
‘Wow! Girls!’
‘Party Animal’

The pieces aren’t strictly connected but they each have a similar theme. For instance, ‘Bloom’ the background shows a sunflower, which resembles positive growth. It directs itself to the light and the colour yellow is a symbol for positivity. My intention is to showcase the beauty that emerges as a person creates themselves and their character; how they bloom. ‘Bubble E’ and ‘Party Animal’ are similar to the ‘Bloom’ series and show how the use of colour influences your emotions and, in this case, invokes a sense of happiness and peace. ‘Wow!Girls!’ is to explore how Pop Art culture took over society but never actually represented any race except from the countries which it emerged from. Many immigrants face a cultural clash as they move to a new country and find it difficult to fit in or belong. A “Wow girl” is part of Pop Art culture and represents femininity, excitement and attraction. Using traditional Egyptian clothing and body language, I represented Egyptian women’s version of being a “Wow girl”. ‘Fall and Rise’: This piece shows transformation. Instead of a life cycle, it’s a direction into a new realm. Leaves transform into another life and fly off the canvas – it represents growth and maturity. ‘Saviour/Helper’: Our focus is always on what we give others, how we please them or help them through their struggles, without taking into consideration how this drains us. The sunflowers represent the positivity that we believe we are spreading but are neglecting this positivity to be implemented onto us.

I’m originally from Egypt but I’ve been living in Germany for the past few years. Generally, in my art, I like to represent concepts that speak of what’s beneath a person or invokes a certain feeling. Sometimes, the meaning behind the painting may be the most important in my work but most times it’s actually the technique and the colour as it is what speaks to the viewer the most. This is often my main focus.
